Unum Life Insurance Company of America accused of wrongly denying benefits

Insurance 05

SCRANTON — A man is suing Unum Life Insurance Company of America, alleging breach of contract.

Cornelius Enright filed a complaint on Jan. 12 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania against Unum Life Insurance Company of America, alleging that the insurance firm wrongly failed to pay the plaintiff's disability benefits.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in 2014, he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and has been unable to perform his duties, but was denied when applied for disability benefits. The plaintiff holds Unum Life Insurance Company of America responsible because the defendant allegedly acknowledged his disabling condition but didn't factor in such considerations as his doctors' findings and the fact that his job is completely performed in foreign countries.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks long-term disability benefits, interest, court costs and any further relief this court grants. He is represented by Edwin A. Abrahamsen, Jr. of Abrahamsen, Conaboy & Abrahamsen, P.C. in Scranton.
