Metropolitan Life Insurance Company accused of wrongly denying benefits

PITTSBURGH — A woman is suing Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, citing alleged breach of contract.

Sandra S. Whetzel filed a complaint on Jan. 16, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, alleging that the insurance company denied her claim for continued disability benefits.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in 2014, she became disabled, and was paid long-term disability benefits that were later terminated. The plaintiff holds Metropolitan Life Insurance Company responsible because the defendant allegedly denied continued benefits despite her continued disability.

The plaintiff seeks a declaration that she is entitled to all relief under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act. interest, court costs and any further relief this court grants. She is represented by Brian Patrick Bronson of QuatriniRafferty, P.C. in Greensburg.
