PHILADELPHIA – A Philadelphia consumer alleges a debt collector tried to charge a unlawful fee.

Kefah Hasan filed a complaint on Feb. 10 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Vital Recovery Services LLC alleging violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in September 2016, the defendant sent her a collection letter that stated a fee may be charged for payments made using a check or credit card over the Web or phone. The plaintiff alleges that she did not agree to such a fee and that the cost exceeds the reasonable costs of collection.

The plaintiff seeks actual damages, statutory damages, court costs, and any further relief the court grants. She is represented by Antranig Garibian of Garibian Law Offices P.C. in Philadelphia.
