PHILADELPHIA — A disabled passenger is suing US Airways Inc., American Airlines Inc. and American Airlines Group Inc., alleging that she was injured while being assisted boarding an airplane.

Latoya Lewis of Philadelphia filed a complaint on Feb. 28 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against the defendants alleging that they failed to properly assist the plaintiff while being boarded, leading to her injuries.

According to the complaint, Lewis alleges that, on Sept. 11, 2015, she sustained physical injuries including a fracture of her right femur when her leg got caught under a passenger seat as an airline employee was helping her board in her wheelchair. The plaintiff holds the airline responsible because it allegedly failed to train its employees the proper way of assisting disabled passengers.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount that exceeds $150,000 plus interest, court costs and punitive damages. She is represented by Ramon A. Arreola of Messa & Associates P.C. in Philadelphia.
