Jefferson Hospital, three docs sued for negligence over couple's stillborn baby

Medical malpractice 08

PITTSBURGH — A couple is suing Jefferson Regional Medical Center d/b/a Jefferson Hospital, David Logan M.D.; Michaela Remtulla M.D.; Erica Smith M.D.; Allegheny Clinic d/b/a Jefferson Women's Health; and Allegheny Health Network d/b/a Jefferson Hospital, citing alleged insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries and negligence after their child was delivered stillborn in 2014.

Shawn and Patricia Kea, as co-administrators of the estate of Milani Rose Kea, filed a complaint on Dec. 16 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against the defendants alleging that they failed to provide proper medical care to Milani Rose Kea during childbirth.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that, in 2014, Milani Rose Kea sustained physical injuries including the deterioration of her overall health. The plaintiffs hold the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to recognize the plaintiff's condition and provide tests for her and her baby during childbirth.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against the defendant in an amount that exceeds the jurisdictional limits of the court plus court costs and interest. They are represented by Harry S. Cohen and Todd D. Bowlus of Harry S. Cohen & Associates PC in Pittsburgh.
