Cigna wrongfully terminated short-term disability benefits, Bethlehem man claims

Insurance 06

PHILADELPHIA — A Bethlehem man is suing Cigna Group Insurance Company, citing alleged breach of contract for canceling his disability benefits.

Jose Alicea filed a complaint on March 16 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania alleging that the insurance company wrongly terminated his disability benefits.

According to the complaint, Alicea alleges that he was involved in a vehicular accident causing him to be disabled and was paid short-term disability benefits, but those were later terminated. The plaintiff holds Cigna responsible because it allegedly denied plaintiff's short-term disability benefits despite having substantial evidence for his disability.

The plaintiff seeks payment of all benefits plus interest, court costs and any further relief the court grants. He is represented by Mary LeMieux-Fillery of The Law Offices of Eric A. Shore in Philadelphia.
