PHILADELPHIA — A Philadelphia doctor and medical executive is suing AmeriHealth Caritas Services LLC, a medical group, citing alleged discrimination and violation of workers compensation acts for paying her a lower wage than her male counterparts.
Karen J. Nichols, who was hired by AmeriHealth in 2013 and remains employed there, filed a complaint on March 17 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania alleging that her employer discriminated against her by paying her a lower wage than other male employees.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she experienced discrimination by being paid a lower rate of wage. The plaintiff holds AmeriHealth Caritas Services responsible because it allegedly discriminated against plaintiff due to her sex, paying male employees performing similar work higher wages than she received.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks to order the defendant to adjust plaintiff's salary and bonus to meet the level of her male counterparts, damages, compensation, monetary losses, all wage damages, liquidated damages, interest, court costs and any further relief the court grants. She is represented by Andrew S. Abramson of Abramson Employment Law LLC in Blue Bell.
