PHILADELPHIA - An insurance company, on behalf of two consumers, is suing Electrolux Home Products Inc., a Charlotte-based appliance maker, citing alleged design defect, negligence and product liability for a fire.
Erie Insurance Exchange a/s/o Jamie Sundin and Kathleen Sundin filed a complaint July 27 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against the appliance manufacturer alleging it made a defective product that caused a fire on the Sundins' Pittsburgh property.
According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege they sustained damages to their property. The plaintiffs hold Electrolux responsible because it allegedly failed to inspect its product to meet compliance with industry standards before selling it to consumers.
The plaintiffs seek judgment against the defendant in an amount that exceeds $150,000 plus any further relief the court grants. They are represented by Richard J. Boyd Jr. of de Luca Levine LLC in Blue Bell.
The case was transferred to the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania last month.
