SCRANTON — A Ohio man is suing Norfolk Southern Railway Company, alleging liability, negligence and that insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries.

Steven Becher filed a complaint on May 9 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania alleging that the railway employer, based in Virginia, failed to provide the plaintiff a reasonably safe working environment.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, on Jan. 14, 2015, he was physically injured when a slag pan suddenly exploded while he was welding. The plaintiff holds Norfolk Southern responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to make sure that its equipment was safe to be used by its employees.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount that exceeds $150,000. He is represented by Voci R. Bennett of Keller & Goggin P.C. in Philadelphia.
