PITTSBURGH — An employee is suing Norfolk Southern Corporation, an railway company, alleging liability and negligence for a workplace injury he suffered three years ago.

Lawrence Powers filed a complaint on May 17 in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against Norfolk Southern alleging that his employer failed to make sure that he was provided with a reasonably safe workplace.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, on June 16, 2014, he was injured while performing his duties at work. The plaintiff holds Norfolk Southern responsible because he was injured when the rear hatch of a vehicle he was placing his bag in fell, causing severe personal injury.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant for compensatory damages, interest, court costs and any further relief this court grants. He is represented by Samuel J. Rosenthal of Barish Rosenthal in Philadelphia.
