Pennsylvania insurer brings suit against former employee, Nationwide over trade info

Insurance 07

PHILADELPHIA — A Bala Cynwyd insurance company is suing Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company and Heidi Prewitt, a former employee, alleging breach of contract and violation of state law.

Maguire Insurance Agency Inc. filed a complaint on May 24 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against the defendants alleging that they unlawfully misappropriated trade secrets from the plaintiff.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that it was damaged from having trade secrets taken from it by Prewitt before her resignation in July 2016. The plaintiff holds Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company and Prewitt responsible because Prewitt allegedly breached her contractual agreement by taking plaintiff's confidential information during her employment with PIC in order to use it at her new job at Nationwide.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount that exceeds $75,000 plus interest and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by Daniel P. O'Meara and Amanda D. Crawford of Montgomery, McCracken, Walker & Rhoads LLP in Philadelphia.
