Takeda accused of negligence for negative side effects of Actos diabetes drug

Medical malpractice 03

PITTSBURGH — A Butler County man is suing Takeda Pharmaceuticals USA, Takeda Pharmaceuticals America, Takeda Global Research & Development Center and Takeda Pharmaceuticals International, alleging negligence and product liability.

James Shantz filed a complaint on April 4 in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against the defendants alleging that they manufactured and sold defective diabetes medication to consumers.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he sustained physical injuries due to the side effects of taking Actos for his diabetes. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to warn the plaintiff of the potential harmful effects of taking Actos, which the plaintiff alleges contributed to his developing bladder cancer.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory damages, interest, punitive and exemplary damages, court costs and any further relief this court grants. He is represented by D. Aaron Rihn and Abigail R. Nath of Robert Peirce & Associates P.C. in Pittsburgh.
