Negligence suit filed against Sacred Heart Hospital of Allentown, doctor after woman's death

Medical malpractice 01

PHILADELPHIA – A representative of a woman's estate has filed suit against a doctor and health care facilities over negligence allegations.

Donna M. Perrotti, as executor of the estate of Kelly Ann Denny Stoops, filed a complaint on July 3 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Eric R. Rittenhouse, M.D.; Lehigh Valley Women's Medical Specialties; Sacred Heart Hospital of Allentown; and Sacred Heart Healthcare System alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Stoops was admitted to Sacred Heart on July 10, 2015, for a diagnostic laparoscopy and hysteroscopy for chronic pelvic pain to be performed by Rittenhouse. The suit states that Stoops died July 12, 2015, and an autopsy report ruled that the cause of death was complications of the procedure and hypertensive cardiovascular disease as a significant contributor.

The plaintiff holds Rittenhouse, Lehigh Valley Women's Medical Specialties, Sacred Heart Hospital of Allentown, Sacred Heart Healthcare System responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to diagnose and consider Stoops' prior medical records before performing the procedure on her.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount that exceeds $150,000 plus interest, court costs and any further relief the court grants. She is represented by Shanin Specter and Tracie L. Palmer of Kline & Specter, P.C. in Philadelphia.
