PHILADELPHIA – A Glenside woman alleges her claim for life insurance benefits was wrongfully denied.
Nancy Franchetti filed a complaint on July 25 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Unum Life Insurance Co. of America and Guitar Center Inc. alleging breach of contract and other counts.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff's late husband was employed by Guitar Center from 1977 until he was terminated in January 2016 after taking short-term medical leave for treatment relating to colon cancer. The suit states that the plaintiff's decedent had a life insurance policy with the defendants and that the plaintiff was the beneficiary.
The plaintiff holds Unum Life Insurance Co. of America and Guitar Center Inc. responsible because the defendants allegedly denied payment of benefits to the plaintiff.
The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant in the amount of $102,000 plus interest, court costs and any further relief this court grants. She is represented by Timothy W. Stalker and Ryan A. Nolan of Weber Gallagher Simpson Stapleton Fires & Newby LLP in Philadelphia.
