PHILADELPHIA – A Bensalem couple allege that the wife was injured during an eye surgery because of the equipment used.
Joan M. Heitman and Harry Heitman filed a complaint on Aug. 31 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Bausch + Lomb, Bausch + Lomb Surgical Inc. and Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc. alleging negligence and other counts.
According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that Joan M. Heitman underwent cataract extraction with posterior lens implant in September 2015 and her physician used the defendants' Stellaris PC and Stellaris Handpiece. She alleges during the procedure, she suffered irreparable burns to the cornea.
The plaintiffs hold Bausch + Lomb, Bausch + Lomb Surgical, Inc. and Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc. responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to properly test their products to insure they would not cause bodily harm.
The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against the defendants in an amount of more than $150,000. They are represented by Jeffrey Krawitz of Stark & Stark in Yardley.
