Man alleges prescription drug Jardiance caused kidney injuries

PITTSBURGH – A McKees Rocks man alleges he was injured by a diabetes drug.

William L. Bell Jr. filed a complaint on Sept. 1 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh Division against Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals Inc., Boehringer Ingelheim Pharma GMBH & Co. KG, Boehringer Ingelheim International GMBG and Eli Lilly & Co. alleging products liability and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that developed an acute kidney injury from taking the prescription drug Jardiance, which is a diabetes drug. He alleges he began taking the drug per his doctor's recommendation in June 2015 and suffered renal failure in August 2015 because of the Jardiance treatment.

The plaintiff holds Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Boehringer Ingelheim Pharma GMBH & Co. KG, Boehringer Ingelheim International GMBG and Eli Lilly & Co. responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to warn patients regarding risk of injury from using Jardiance.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory damages of more than $75,000, medical expenses, economic damages, punitive damages, interest, court costs and any further relief the court grants. He is represented by Justin J. Hawal of DiCello Levitt & Casey LLC in Mentor, Ohio.
