Consumer alleges credit score was damaged because Credit Protection Association failed to mark account as disputed

PHILADELPHIA – A Philadelphia consumer alleges a debt collector failed to mark an account as disputed.

Cierra Reese-Howard filed a complaint on Sept. 27 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Credit Protection Association I Inc. alleging violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff disputed an alleged debt with the defendant in September 2016 and that when she examined her credit report the following November, discovered that that defendant had re-reported the account and failed to list it as disputed. She alleges that her credit score and was lowered by roughly 60 points as the result of false report.

The plaintiff seeks actual damages, statutory damages, court costs and any further relief the court grants. She is represented by Antranig Garibian of Garibian Law Offices, P.C. in Philadelphia.
