Woman alleges Reliance Standard Life Insurance failed to evaluate evidence for claim

JOHNSTOWN – A Mahaffey woman alleges her claim for disability benefits was wrongfully denied.

Rebecca Jo Kephart filed a complaint on Sept. 19 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, Johnstown Division against Reliance Standard Life Insurance citing the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she stopped working due in 2008 to Sjogran's syndrome, collagenous colitis, and other medical conditions. The suit states she was found to be disabled in 2010 and has been receiving Social Security benefits.

The plaintiff alleges the defendant denied her claims for disability benefits in August 2016 and denied her appeal.

The plaintiff holds Reliance Standard Life Insurance responsible because the defendant allegedly ignored medical advice and failed to evaluate the evidence of her claims.

The plaintiff seeks declare that the plaintiff is entitled to all relief under ERISA, interest, court costs and any further relief the court grants. She is represented by Joyce Novotny-Prettiman of QuatriniRafferty PC in Greensburg.
