PHILADELPHIA — A Philadelphia resident is suing a debt collector, citing alleged misrepresentation in debt collection.

Alicia Edwards-Gutzman filed a complaint Oct. 3 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Taurus Law Group P.C., alleging it sent a collection letter to the plaintiff that misrepresented her debt.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Oct. 5, 2016, she received a collection letter that contained legal threats if her debt on a Walmart account was not paid. The plaintiff holds Taurus Law Group responsible because the defendant allegedly sent a collection letter to the plaintiff stating that a law firm is acting on its behalf as a debt collector, which could mislead consumers to believe they are in danger of being sued.

The plaintiff seeks actual damages, statutory damages, court costs and any further relief this court grants. She is represented by Antranig Garibian of Garibian Law Offices P.C. in Philadelphia.
