Arkema Inc. claims former employee breached contract, left to work for competitor

PHILADELPHIA – A King of Prussia chemical and advanced materials company alleges that a Wisconsin individual misappropriated trade secrets.

Arkema Inc. filed a complaint on Oct. 16 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against William Cantwell citing the Pennsylvania Uniform Trade Secrets Act.

According to the complaint, the defendant is a former employee of the plaintiff and his final role was senior project engineer - corporate. The suit states the defendant signed a general employment agreement that restricted his use of confidential information.  

The plaintiff holds Cantwell responsible because the defendant allegedly accepted employment with IFS Industries, a direct competitor, and the plaintiff alleges that the defendant will be unable to work for IFS without using trade secret information he obtained while working for the plaintiff.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount of $75,000 for damages. It is represented by Daniel P. O'Meara and Amanda D. Crawford of Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart PC in Philadelphia.
