Woman claims she was terminated by Temple University Health System, others over FMLA leave

PHILADELPHIA – A Philadelphia woman alleges that she was terminated from her job because she requested a medical leave.

Debra Thornton filed a complaint on Dec. 4 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Temple University Health System Inc.; American Oncologic Hospital also known as Fox Chase Cancer Center; and Fox Chase Cancer Center citing the Family and Medical Leave Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was hired by the defnedants in October 2012 as a customer service operator and applied for intermittent FMLA leave in March 2015. She was terminated on Dec. 4, 2015, the suit states.

The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because the defendants allegedly retaliated against the plaintiff by terminating her employment for going on intermittent leave despite being eligible for it.

The plaintiff seeks all damages and relief, back pay and front pay, compensatory damages, court costs and any further relief the court grants. She is represented by Marc A. Weinberg of Marc A. Weinberg, Esquire in Jenkintown.
