READING – A Lancaster business is alleged to have wrongfully terminated an HVAC technician.
Ryne Christian filed a complaint on Dec. 15 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against The Mennonite Home alleging violation of the Family and Medical Leave Act and wrongful termination.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff was hired by the defendant in May 2016 as an HVAC technician. The suit states on Dec. 7, 2016, representatives of the plaintiff's doctor contacted the defendant regarding health insurance coverage for a heart procedure needed by the plaintiff and coverage was approved. The suit states the plaintiff was terminated Dec. 9, 2016.
The plaintiff holds The Mennonite Home responsible because the defendant allegedly retaliated against the plaintiff by terminating his employment to prevent him from qualifying for FMLA leave.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount of more than $150,000 plus compensatory damages, back pay, front pay, past lost wages, future lost wages, lost pay increases, lost opportunity, lost benefits, punitive damages, court costs, interest delay damages and any further relief the court grants.
