Wrongful death suit filed against HCR Manorcare

Medical malpractice 06

PITTSBURGH – A Pittsburgh woman has filed a wrongful death suit against the owners of a Allegheny County nursing home.

Debra Ostronic, administratrix of the estate of Patricia Reinhart, filed a complaint on March 2 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against HCR Manorcare, individually and temporarily doing business as Manorcare Health Services-North Hills and Heartland, alleging wrongful death.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff's mother, Patricia Reinhart, was admitted to Manorcare Health Services-North Hills in February 2016. The suit states Reinhart attempted to stand unassisted from her wheelchair, which shifted and caused her to fall and fracture her hip. The suit states Reinhart underwent surgery to repair the fracture on April 13, 2016, and died on April 18, 2016.

The plaintiff holds HCR Manorcare responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to provide adequate supervision and assistance to Reinhart or provide a wheelchair with anti-rollback brakes.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount that exceeds the jurisdictional limits of this court plus court costs. She is represented by Amber Archer of Shenderovich, Shenderovich & Fishman PC in Pittsburgh.
