Cigna Group Insurance accused of breach of contract

Insurance 08

PHILADELPHIA — An individual is suing Merck, Sharpe & Dohme Corporation and Cigna Group Insurance for alleged breach of contract.

Michael Wood filed a complaint on March 27 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, alleging that the defendants denied his claim for disability benefits despite allegedly being eligible for such benefits.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he worked as a civil engineer and became eligible for short-term disability benefits. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly denying his claim for short-term disability benefits even though Cigna Group Insurance allegedly had started to pay him short-term disability benefits.

The plaintiff seeks to declare that he is eligible for all disability benefits, order the defendants to pay all wage replacement benefits, plus interest, court costs and any further relief this court grants. He is represented by Jonathan B. Young.
