HARRISBURG — A Muslim employee is suing her former employers, Colonial Park Care Center LLC d/b/a Colonial Park Care Center and Grane Healthcare Co., for alleged discrimination.

Daaiyah Shabazz filed a complaint on April 16 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, alleging that the defendants violated the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she was fired on Dec. 6, 2016 after she requested religious accommodation for Ramadan. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly discriminating against her because of her race and/or religion and for allegedly firing her in retaliation for filing complaints about the discrimination that she allegedly was subjected to.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks actual, compensatory and punitive damages; the costs and expenses of this action; and any other relief that the court deems just. She is represented by Matthew Miller of Swartz Swidler LLC in Cherry Hill, N.J.
