Weis Markets Inc. accused of favoring Caucasian employees over African-American employees

HARRISBURG — An African-American man has filed a class action lawsuit against Weis Markets Inc. for allegedly subjecting him to a hostile work environment and racial discrimination.

Jason Allen filed a complaint on April 25 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, alleging that the defendant violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he was subjected to racial discrimination, a hostile work environment and was passed over for promotions because of his race. He further claims that the defendant favors Caucasian employees. As a result of the defendant’s alleged conduct, the plaintiff claims that he has suffered financial damages.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks an order allowing this case to proceed as a class action and designating the plaintiff and his counsel as representatives, plus all damages, attorneys’ fees, litigation costs, expenses and all other appropriate equitable relief. He is represented by Derrek W. Cummings, Larry A. Weisberg, Steve T. Mahan and Stephen P. Gunther of McCarthy Weisberg Cummings PC in Harrisburg.
