Former Pitt wrestling coach claims he was wrongfully terminated

Wrongful term 14

ERIE — A wrestling coach is suing the University of Pittsburgh, alleging he is owed unpaid wages and was wrongfully terminated.

Jason Peters filed a complaint June 4 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania for alleged violations of Pennsylvania’s Wage Payment and Collection Law.

According to the complaint, Peters was terminated from his job as the head wrestling coach at Pitt on Jan. 19, 2017. Peters claims that after his discharge, he was denied wages and benefits due under his contract, discriminated against as he was replaced by a white male and was never given notice and a hearing or a meaningful opportunity to respond to the alleged grounds for his firing or an opportunity to appeal his termination.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory and liquidated damages, attorney's fees, costs, pre-judgment and post-judgment interest and other relief the court deems proper. He is represented by John Stember, Maureen Davidson-Welling and Daniel Berlin of Stember Cohn & Davidson-Welling, LLC in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
