State Farm says fire started as a result of man's negligence

PHILADELPHIA — State Farm Fire & Casualty Co. is suing Michael Shelley, citing alleged negligence in connection with a fire.

State Farm filed the lawsuit on behalf of insured party William Rao June 27 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, alleging that Shelley failed to exercise care to avoid causing a fire.

According to the complaint, a fire at Rao's property on Jan. 17, 2017 resulted in $315,525.81 in damages. The plaintiff claiims the fire started when Shelley allegedly was careless in using fire-starting materials.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks a judgment in the amount of $315,525.81, plus costs of the lawsuit and other appropriate relief. It is represented by Daniel de Luca of de Luca Levine LLC in Blue Bell.
