PHILADELPHIA — A former employee is suing Lehigh University, claiming the university violated the Family and Medical Leave Act.

Susan Ragusa filed a complaint Aug. 8 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, also alleging that the defendant violated the Americana with Disabilities Act and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act.

According to the complaint, Ragusa was diagnosed with endometrial cancer in August 2015. Despite excellent performance for approximately eight years, the plaintiff claims she was fired by the university upon expiration of her long-term disability benefits in December 2015.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory and punitive damages, costs, fees and disbursement and other just, proper or equitable relief. She is represented by Daniel Orlow of Console Mattiacci Law LLC in Philadelphia.
