MEDIA — A daughter is suing nursing home facilities, alleging her mother fell several times and suffered head injuries that contributed to her death.
Dolores Cavalieri, as executor of her mother's estate, filed a complaint Sept. 10 in the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas against Prospect Park Health and Rehabilitation Residence and Center; RHA Pennsylvania Nursing Homes Inc. and Reliant Prospect Park, alleging that the defendants breached their lawful duty to provide a safe nursing home facility to Elizabeth Romano.
According to the complaint, on Aug. 26, 2016, Elizabeth Romano was admitted to the defendants' nursing home. During her admission, defendants were allegedly aware of her medical condition that required the assistance of the staff for bed mobility, transfers, walking, locomotion, dressing, eating, toilet use, personal hygiene, and bathing, according to court documents.
She fell during her residency several times, causing her to suffer head trauma and complained of left hip pain, according to court documents, which claim that the falls were noted in her record. Elizabeth Romano allegedly sustained serious, painful and permanent injuries that required surgical intervention that contributed to her death on Jan. 5, 2017, according to court documents.
The plaintiff allege the defendants failed to ensure that Elizabeth Romano received appropriate care and allegedly failed to care for her in a manner that promoted maintenance and any possible enhancement of her quality of life and dignity.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment for compensatory and punitive damages, in a sum in excess of the arbitration limits. She is represented by Jefferey M. Rosenbaum of Rosenbaum & Associates, PC in Philadelphia.
