Woman alleges use of Schwarzkopf hair dye caused baldness

PITTSBURGH – A woman is suing a hair product manufacturer over allegations that the use of a hair dye resulted in hair loss.

Zhu Fang Zhu filed a complaint on in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against Henkel Corp., Henkel North America Consumer Goods Inc., Henkel of America Inc., Schwarzkopf Inc., Henkel AG & Co. KGaA and John Does 1-20 alleging strict product liability and other counts.

According to the complaint, the defendants manufacture Schwarzkopf Professional Quality Keratin Color hair care products and dyes. The plaintiff alleges in May 2017, she purchased one of the dyes and used it according to the instructions. She alleges one week after she used it, she suffered hair loss and became fully bald.

The plaintiff alleges the product was defectively manufactured and designed because it causes an unreasonably high rate of adverse dermatological reactions.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by W. Steven Berman of Napoli Shkolnik PLLC in Melville.
