Man alleges he was assaulted by correctional officer at Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility

PHILADELPHIA – A Philadelphia man alleges he was assaulted by a correctional officer while a pretrial detainee at a Philadelphia facility.

James Taylor & Sheila Taylor filed a complaint April 29 against the City of Philadelphia Law Department and others in the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas alleging assault and battery and other counts.

According to the complaint, James Taylor was arrested on Feb. 13, 2016, and his bail was set at $250,000. The suit states James Taylor was a pretrial detainee at Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility and on July 13, 2016, a correctional officer "slammed" a cell door on his hand, causing serious injuries.

The plaintiffs are seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. They are represented by Michael I. McDermot in Philadelphia.

The defendants removed the case to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania on May 16.
