Woman suing over alleged fall at Seventh Day Adventist retreat

PHILADELPHIA – A New Jersey woman is suing a religious organization after she stepped into a hole during a retreat and sprained her ankle and wrist.

Kimura L. Fields filed a complaint on June 7 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Allegheny East Conference Corp. of Seventh Day Adventist and Pine Forge Institute Inc., trading as Pine Forge Academy, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was attending a yearly religious retreat at the defendants' property. She alleges on June 27, 2017, she was walking from a pavilion to the church area when she stepped into a hole in the lawn that was covered by grass clippings. She alleges the whole was 4 inches in diameter and 8 inches deep. 

The suit states the plaintiff sprained her right ankle and right wrist in the fall.

The plaintiff is seeking $150,000, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by Murphy & Dengler in Norristown.
