PITTSBURGH — A marathon runner who was being treated for postmenopausal osteoporosis and allegedly suffered a major injury is claiming her physician failed to properly treat and monitor her condition.
Margaret Howard filed a complaint April 24 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against South Hills OBGYN Associates Incorporated and Sandra Mecs, MD, alleging medical negligence and other claims.
Howard was being treated with the prescription drug Boniva for her osteoporosis from March 2009 through June 2012. She alleges that on April 29, 2018, while running in a marathon in Carmel, California, she felt pain then heard a crack in the area of her femur, requiring surgery after being transported to the hospital.
Howard claims she has suffered permanent disfigurement due to the defendants' negligent care in treating her condition.
Howard seeks monetary relief, trial by jury, interest and all other just relief. She is represented by Peter Friday, Kevin Burger and Joshua Licata of Friday & Cox LLC in Pittsburgh.
