MEDIA – The Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office has taken action against a Delaware County retailer that allegedly sold Lysol cleaning wipes at an excessive price during the coronavirus pandemic.
On May 5, the Office of Attorney General Josh Shapiro of Harrisburg filed a settlement with TEJZ, Inc. (doing business as “Fresh & Easy Convenience Store”) of Boothwyn, alleging violation of both the Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law and the Pennsylvania Price Gouging Act.
During the period of disaster emergency instituted by the Commonwealth in response to the coronavirus pandemic, it is said that on at least 12 occasions, the store sold Lysol cleaning wipes in excess of 20 percent of the average price the product was sold in the affected area just a week before the order.
Per settlement, the store is to pay $755.13 to atone for the violations – comprised of $635.25 in civil penalties and public protection and education purposes, and $119.88 in restitution.
The assurance of voluntary compliance was signed by Deputy Attorney General Brandon J. Bingle of the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office, Chirag Patel of TEJZ, Inc. and his attorney, John J. McCreesh III of McCreesh McCreesh McCreesh & Cannon.
