PEPPER HAMILTON LLP: A Statement of Support and Solidarity

Microphone2 1000x667

Pepper Hamilton LLP issued the following announcement on June 5.

We have seen criminal acts of violence and racism over the last several weeks that have been shocking and difficult to watch. We should not be shocked. The harsh truth is that similar acts of violence and racism have been going on for years. We stand and join all people against racial injustice. We stand for equal justice.

To our Black colleagues and clients, please know that we stand with you in solidarity. We humbly acknowledge that we cannot fully appreciate the level of anguish, anger, and heartache that you are experiencing. We pledge to support you at this time and in the future — to stand by your side, to listen and learn, and to not be complicit in encouraging or accepting racism. We pledge to be vigilant.

Our firms have a long history of standing up for human rights and speaking out against social injustice. In this historic moment, we are being called to, once and for all, dismantle systemic racism — and we intend to embrace this opportunity and do the hard work.

We pledge to our colleagues, our clients, and our community that we will lead by example, call out racial and social injustice when we encounter it, and seek out opportunities to enact real and lasting change.

On Wednesday, June 10, all members of the Pepper Hamilton and Troutman Sanders communities will join together in A Day of Pause and Understanding in Recognition of Racial Injustice and Allyship in America.

On that day, we will stop and reflect on the racial injustices that persist in our nation, support those who are affected, and identify ways that we can all contribute to promoting equality and justice.

As a nation, we have a long way to go in overturning racism, in addressing its impact, and in rebuilding trust. We commit ourselves to this critical path.
