DirecTV dish caused house fire, lawsuit claims

State Court
Directv

PITTSBURGH - A Pittsburgh woman sued the Duquesne Light Company and DirecTV, blaming them for her house fire in March 2019.

The suit comes two years after a fire broke out at the home of plaintiff Anne Scarpaci that was determined by the City of Pittsburgh Fire Investigation Unit to have originated from the DirecTV satellite dish mounted on the plaintiff's roof.

The dish was allegedly improperly touching an energized electrical line, owned by Duquesne, which provided electrical service to Scarpaci's home.

Both defendants are sued for negligence in failing to notice and maintain a hazardous situation. DirecTV also faces one count of breach of contract.

Scarpaci is seeking damages outside of the arbitration limits of the court.

The plaintiff is represented by Kontos Killion and Hassen of Pittsburgh.
