PITTSBURGH - A wrongful death claim related to the death of an 89-year-old woman in Allegheny County and against UPMC St. Margaret Hospital was recently settled for $150,000.
Eileen Currie was alleged to have fallen in May 2019, hitting her head as a result. She was transported to St. Margaret's Hospital “in considerable discomfort,” according to court documents.
While at the hospital, the claim alleged that Currie was given both a CT scan and was X-rayed. But after being told that the hospital found nothing abnormal, she was discharged from the hospital, it is alleged.
The next morning, Currie could not be woken, and was once again transported to the hospital, where she later died from a “massive brain bleed” that had not shown up on the CT scan the prior day.
The claim was filed by legal counsel on behalf of James Currie, the executor of Eileen Currie’s estate, according to court documents. Under the agreement of representation with Matt Marquette and Echard Marquette, P.C., one-third of the settlement goes to the attorneys as their fee.
