PITTSBURGH — A man claims he suffered serious injuries to his knee after slipping on an "oily substance" at a Giant Eagle Store in Pittsburgh.

Genadiy Langer filed a complaint May 19 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against Giant Eagle, Inc., alleging negligence.

According to his complaint, Langer was at the Giant Eagle Store on Murray Avenue in Pittsburgh on June 27, 2019. He alleges that while walking to the cashier's station, he slipped on an "oily substance like mayonnaise" that was on the floor of the middle aisle and fell to the floor.

Langer further alleges that an employee assisted him up off the floor and then covered the area with a cart after asking for a cleanup of the area.  As a result of the fall, Langer alleges he suffered knee damage and “permanently finds it painful to go up and down stairs and when standing up.” He also alleges that the incident was “exclusively and solely” caused by the defendant’s failed actions to properly inspect the store, warn customers of the substance or to clean the substance off the floor.

Langer seeks monetary relief of more than $35,000, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by John Havey of John A. Havey, P.C. in Aliquippa.
