PITTSBURGH — A woman who was allegedly attacked by a mentally disabled person in the waiting room of her physician's office is claiming negligence.

Anna Mae Metz filed a complaint May 20 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against John Doe and Wesley Family Services alleging negligence.

Metz , who was 74 years old at the time, alleges in her complaint that she was at a medical appointment at her physician's office located in the UPMC Outpatient Treatment Center in Natrona Heights on Oct. 20, 2019. She claims that while in the waiting room reading a magazine, Joe Doe, an "older middle-aged male" with a mental disability who was accompanied by two women, rose from his seat and "aggressively" lunged towards her which caused her to fall to the ground.

Metz claims she suffered injuries to her spine and arthritic knee as well as abrasions on her hands. She makes claims for Doe's negligence for his threatening and intimidating behavior and Wesley Family Services' negligence for failing to supervise and control Doe or ensuring that his caregivers could physically control him and for allowing him to be in the waiting room with other patients.

Metz seeks monetary relief, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Erin Rudert of Ainsman Levine LLC in Pittsburgh.
