Man alleges Little Giant ladder defect caused his 20-foot fall

Federal Court

PITTSBURGH — A man claims he fell 20 feet to the ground and suffered serious injuries due to a defective ladder manufactured by Little Giant Ladder Systems.

Paul and Shana Kallok filed a complaint June 22 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against Wing Enterprises Inc., doing business as Little Giant Ladder Systems, alleging strict liability, negligence and breach of warranty.

The Kalloks allege in their complaint that Paul Kallok purchased a Little Giant ladder and wall standoff on Oct. 18, 2018. They allege that on Dec. 30, 2019, Kallok was using the ladder while doing subcontracting work for LeafFilter and installing gutter guards on a customer's home.

The Kalloks claim the ladder's rung that was attached to the wall standoff became separated from the side rails and caused the ladder to fall toward the house. The plaintiffs claim Kallok fell 20 feet to the ground with his right side hitting the concrete pavement and he suffered a concussion as well as injuries to his knee, face, chin and elbow. They further claim the ladder was dangerous and defective, that the ladder's side rails were not properly welded to the metallic pieces on each side and that an insufficient "penetration" between the "rung-to-side weld" caused the "failure of the ladder."

The plaintiffs seek monetary relief of more than $75,000, trial by jury, Christopher Inman of Kontos Mengine Killion & Hassen in Pittsburgh.
