Woman: American Airlines dropped me on the floor

State Court
Wheelchair 06

PITTSBURGH — An American Airlines passenger who was allegedly dropped on the floor at the terminal gate as crews attempted to transfer her to another wheelchair is claiming negligence and Americans with Disabilities Act violations.

Abigale Lee Miller filed a complaint June 14 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against American Airlines Group Inc., Pittsburgh International Airport and Allegheny County Airport Authority alleging negligence and violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Miller, who suffers from a disability due to cancer of the lymph nodes and uses an electric power wheelchair, was traveling on United Airlines from Los Angeles to North Carolina to Pittsburgh on July 6, 2019, according to her complaint.

She alleges that after landing at the Pittsburgh International Airport, the American Airlines crew was attempting to lift and move her to her personal wheelchair when they dropped her on the floor at the terminal gate. Miller claims she suffered severe injuries to her shoulder, bicep, back, arm and neck and has had to delay surgery for her cancer treatment.

She alleges American Airlines failed to make her personal wheelchair available when she left the plane and failed to safely transfer her to her electric wheelchair. Miller also claims American Airlines failed to aid her after she was dropped in front of "mass spectators."

Miller seeks monetary relief, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Mark Ulven of The Sommer Law Group in Pittsburgh.
