Woman slices foot open on entrance door at Wawa, then files lawsuit

State Court

MEDIA — A woman is claiming negligence after slicing her foot on the underneath of the entrance door to a Wawa in Drexel Hill.

Christine H. Stroup and Francis J. Stroup filed a complaint July 12 in the Court of Common Pleas for Delaware County against Wawa Inc., alleging negligence.

According to the Stroups' complaint, Christine Stroup was at the Wawa Store on Burmont Road in Drexel Hill on Sept. 7, 2019. They allege that as Stroup was walking into the store, her right foot became sliced opened from the underside of the aluminum door, which caused her to suffer a tendon laceration that required surgery to repair.

The plaintiffs claim that as a result of Christine Stroup's injuries, they have incurred medical care expenses and that Stroup suffered physical pain and mental distress. They allege the defendants were negligent for failing to properly inspect and maintain their premises and that the door was defective because it had no door sweep or protective weather-stripping. They also allege Wawa failed to give any warning to the public about the defective and hazardous condition.

The Stroups seek monetary relief of more than $50,000, interest and all other proper relief. They are represented by Attorney Richard Bateman, Jr., in Media.
