PITTSBURGH — Amazon is facing a lawsuit alleging a defective grinder disc chain plate for a circular saw caused a man to suffer serious injuries.

Steven Jaquay and Nancy Jaquay filed a complaint July 12 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against Amazon.com Inc. for strict product liability, negligence and breach of warranty.

Plaintiff Steven Jaquay purchased a SigmaGo Grinder Disc Chain Plate - 22 Tooth Grinding Wheel Disc, fine cut wood cutting chainsaw blade and Woodwork Chain Carver Circular Saw from Amazon on April 30, 2019, according to the complaint.

The plaintiffs allege that while using the grinder disc chain plate, it suddenly malfunctioned and caused the grinder disc chain plate to "kick back" and lacerate Jaquay. They claim the defendants advertised, sold and distributed a defective grinder disc chain plate and failed to label the product with appropriate warnings.

The Jaquays also claim the defendants failed to have the grinder disc chain plate properly tested to assure it was safe for use. The plaintiffs also claim Steve Jaquay suffered nerve, tendon and muscle damage to his hand that required hospitalization and surgeries. They allege his injuries have also cause lost wages and have caused them to incur medical bills and/or liens.

The Jaquays seek monetary and all other just relief. They are represented by Dainel Schiffman and Benjamin Wilt of The Schiffman Firm LLC in Pittsburgh.
