Man alleges odd step at putting green caused his fall, injuries

PITTSBURGH — A man alleges a substantially shorter last step on a stairway at a putting green caused his fall and multiple injuries.

Brian Wachtel filed a complaint Aug. 31 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against Scally Executive Golf Inc., doing business as Scally's Golf Center alleging negligence and premises liability.

Wachtel alleges in his complaint that he was practicing on the putting green at Scally's in Moon Township on Sept. 5, 2019. He claims that as he proceeded down a stairway leading from the putting green to the driving range with a bucket of balls, he lost his balance and fell face forward due to the last step in the stairway being "substantially shorter" than the rest of the steps.

Wachtel alleges as a result of his fall he suffered a sprain, ligament tear and carpal tunnel syndrome which required surgery on his hand and wrist, shoulder and bicep. He claims the defendants failed to warn the stairs posed an unreasonable danger or have any safety measures in place such as a handrail to prevent a trip or fall.

Wachtel seeks monetary relief trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Robert King and Matthew Huffines of King & Huffines Attorneys At Law PLLC in Beaver.
