Golf course sued after wind blows table and umbrella off ground

PITTSBURGH - Ann and Leroy Metz filed a complaint in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County in October against the Pittsburgh Golf Club for negligence and premises liability.

According to the complaint, on May 26, 2021, Ann Metz was a guest at the Pittsburgh Golf Club when she was walking on the patio near the pool area and a gust of wind lifted open an umbrella that was attached to a metal table. As a result, the umbrella began ascending into the sky, and bringing with it the metal table.

Once both objects were airborne, Metz was struck by the table, knocked to the ground, her legs were pinned and she was left with serious injuries, the suit says. The serious permanent injuries suffered by Metz included left tibial plateau fracture, lacerations, significant bruising, skin blistering, left foot drop and disfiguration scarring.

The Metzes seek an amount in excess of the jurisdictional arbitration limit, plus interest and cost. The Metzes are represented by Hal K. Waldman.
