Philadelphia personal injury firm accused of gender discrimination against paralegal

Lawsuits

PHILADELPHIA — A personal injury law firm is facing allegations it discriminated against a paralegal applicant due to her gender.

Adriane Moore filed a complaint June 6 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Dashevsky, Horwitz, Kuhn, Novello & Shorr PC alleging gender discrimination, violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act and other claims.

According to her complaint, Moore alleges she was offered a paralegal position at the defendant's personal injury law firm in May of 2021. She claims that on the day she was supposed to start work, she was unexpectedly running a few minutes late and advised the defendant, who then postponed her start date to the following week.

Moore alleges that during her interview with the defendant's president, Edwin Dashevsky, and office manager Amy Horowitz, she was asked "multiple" questions regarding her childcare arrangements. She further alleges that she informed Horowitz and Dashevsky that her fiancé would be handling childcare since he had end-stage liver disease and did not work outside the home.

Moore claims the defendant rescinded her employment offer based on her gender, being a working mother and her association with her disabled fiancé. She also claims she was qualified to perform the job and that "no legitimate, non-discriminatory reasons exists" for her to lose the job offer.

Moore seeks monetary relief, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by David Koller and Jordan Santo of Koller Law LLC in Philadelphia.
