PITTSBURGH — A contract worker who was allegedly injured when a freight elevator door closed on top of him at PNC Park is alleging negligence.

Michael Rado and Katie Rado filed a complaint June 21 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against Pittsburgh Associates LP doing business as Pittsburgh Baseball Club alleging negligence.

The Rados allege in their complaint that Michael Rado was working as an executive sous-chef for Aramark Corporation, which supervised concessions and catering at PNC Park. They claim that on Aug, 5, 2021, a freight elevator door closed down on top of him and caused him to suffer injuries to his back and neck as well as post-concussion symptoms such as headaches and amnesia.

According to the plaintiffs' complaint, the freight elevator had two sets of doors, an interior and gated door as well as exterior door which both close vertically. They claim the freight elevator also has an alarm that sounds prior to the interior closing which had not been operational for more than a week and that the elevator's sensory device to stop the door failed. The Rados allege the defendants' negligence for failing to maintain the freight elevator, allowing contracted employees to operate in a dangerous condition and for not taking proper precautionary measures.

The Rados seek monetary relief, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. They are represented by Scott Glassmith of Gismond & Associates PC in Pittsburgh.
