HARRISBURG — A former correctional facility inmate is claiming negligence after slipping on soapy water in the shower area near his cell block and suffering injuries.

Bryan Sims filed a complaint  Sept. 1 in the Court of Common Pleas of Delaware County against Delaware County as successor in liability to The Geo Group Inc., and the GEO Group Inc., alleging negligence.

According to Sims' complaint, he was walking to the showers on his cell block at the George W. Hill Correctional Facility in Thornton on Sept. 11, 2020. He claims the area was poorly lit and that he suddenly slipped and fell on an accumulation of soapy water.

Sims alleges he suffered cervical and thoracic injuries as well as a lumbar strain, a sprain and injury to his leg. He claims the defendants who operate the facility failed to maintain the premises or warn of the dangerous condition. He also claims the defendant failed to take necessary precautions to protect the inmates from dangerous and defective conditions and for failing to repair the hazard. Sims alleges the dangerous condition existed for an unreasonable period of time without being corrected.

Sims seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000, interest and all other just relief. He is represented by James Wells of Gay & Chacker PC in Philadelphia.
