MEDIA — A subcontractor worker at the George W. Hill Correctional Facility is alleging negligence after the floor grates in the kitchen gave way and caused his injuries.

Gerald Bono filed a complaint Sept. 6 in the Court of Common Pleas of Delaware County against the County of Delaware, Delaware County Jail Oversight Board, Delaware County Board of Prison and GEO Secure Services LLC alleging negligence.

Bono, according to his complaint, was working for the GEO Group as a kitchen worker at the George W. Hill Correctional Facility in Thornton on Dec. 28, 2020. He alleges that as he was stirring stew in a kettle, he stepped on the floor crates covering the kettle drainage ditch when the grates suddenly gave way. Bono claims his foot dropped down into the drainage ditch and caused him to fall and suffer injuries.

Bono alleges the defendants were negligent for failing to keep the kitchen grates in a safe condition, failing to inspect the facility and failing to warn of the dangerous and defective condition. He also alleges the defendants failed to repair the defective condition and allowed it to exist for an unreasonable amount of time.

Bono seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Attorney Conal Hickey in Media.
